Self-exclusion — put a wall between you and the bet
Self-exclusion lets you voluntarily ban yourself from casinos and gambling sites for a set period. In the US, most states and casinos run voluntary self-exclusion programs (the NCPG can point you to yours). In Great Britain, GAMSTOP blocks every UK-licensed site and app in one free registration (6 months, 1 year, or 5 years). Many operators also offer deposit limits, cool-off periods, and account closure — use them.
Warning signs
- Betting more than you can afford to lose, or chasing losses to "get even".
- Borrowing money, selling things, or lying to family to keep gambling.
- Gambling to escape stress, or feeling restless or irritable when trying to cut back.
- Gambling harming your work, studies, relationships, or sleep.
If any of these sound familiar, that call is worth making today.
How to help someone else
You don't have to fix it alone. Gam-Anon supports family and friends of people who gamble. Lead with concern, not blame; don't cover their debts or bail them out repeatedly; and share the helpline number above. Support for you matters too.
This site is education and harm-reduction only. We never take a wager, hold a stake, or run a book — there is no bet to place here, ever.
